John and Jody Lyons
God has truly blessed Jody and I, as he has given us seven great children and twelve good grand kids that we are both very proud of. However the very best thing God has done was when he gave Jody to John.
Jody and John have been sharing their life together since 2000. Jody is an emergency room nurse and has a great heart for helping and loving others. She has a profound faith for God in her life and is highly devoted to John and their family. A good family friend, Chris Williams was a professional football player and is a very big, strong and mild mannered person. He has a saying that he refers to when someone of his size and disposition finds themselves getting mad or upset. Chris's saying is "Don't poke the bear". Well that saying fits Jody very well when it comes to protecting her kids, grand kids or John. She is the mama bear and she loves them all very much.
Jody enjoys taking care of people and sharing both her's and John's life together. She's a true Midwest Sweetheart and is a caring friend to all. She's a good listener, a great mom and grandma, and an even better partner in life. She has the unique ability to make almost anyone laugh when she tells her stories or just by merely watching her actions. She has maintained friendships from her earliest childhood years and continues to build long lasting relationships today. She brought three amazing kids with her into the life she shares with John; Jana, Michael, and Katie. Jana was already married to Josh-John's oldest son. :) Mike and Katie were just 9 and 7 respectively when John and Jody made a life together. John had four children of his own as well; Tammy, Sandy, Josh and Brandi. So together Jody and John, have seven children, and twelve grand children.

John and Jody have seven children and most of them live in different parts of the U.S., which can make it difficult for John & Jody to spend as much time with them as they would like. However, the distance and miles apart also make the times together all that much more valuable. Five of their children are married to great mates and now have their own growing families.
Daughter Tammy and Son, Tanner
Tammy is our oldest daughter and has one son, Tanner. They reside in Oklahoma. Tammy recently returned to school and earned her degree, and has since become a school teacher. Tanner is now attending college at Oklahoma State University and is doing very well.
Daughter Sandy and Family
Sandy is second in line and she is married to Jason. They have made their home in Kentucky with a focus on building a strong wrestling program there. Jason is a very successful high school wrestling coach, and has had multiple State champion teams that he has coached in Wyoming, New Mexico, and Texas. Sandy is also a high school teacher and she coaches basketball along with other sports. She played basketball for San Diego State and had quite a sports career both before and after marriage. Sandy and Jason are great role models for their family as parents and as Christians
They have four children; Bo, Jordan, Lexi, and Shelby. Bo attends Penn State and is a star wrestler and has won many national championships through-out his career and placed second as a freshman in the nationals last year. He's quite famous in the wrestling community and is also known for his humility and strong Christian witness.
Jordan is also attending college at University of Central Oklahoma and is on the power competitive rowing team. Jordan through high school competed in FFA, showing a steer, a pig and a goat. Lexi is also an athlete in track and field and cross country. She is beautiful, graceful, and elegant with a great smile, and sense of humor. Shelby loves horses, soccer, and basketball. As you can see in this picture she is quite relaxed falling a sleep on Preacher in the corral one winter morning when her mom and grandfather had gone out for coffee and donuts.

John's Son Josh, Jody's Daughter Jana and Family
Josh and Jana are next in line and are married with four children of their own. Jody and Jana are as close as two pages next to each other in the Bible. They talk on the phone most of the time twice a day and sometimes even more. They truly are two pea's in a pod. Jana is an amazing mother. She has a very soft heart and a very sweet smile. She spends her days managing a large list of duties and is an excellent multi-tasker raising her boys, running the office, managing the finances all while watching over the details of most of the workings around their busy home and arena. Guests seem to be a constant around their busy facility.
Josh and John are also very close and love working together, riding together, and helping each other learn. They continue to inspire each other through their teachings and trainings and both love going to the movies. Josh traveled and worked with his dad from a young age and after high school went into full time training. Twenty years or so ago John turned over the full time teaching of the certification program to Josh, which Josh continues today. Over 500 professional trainers have graduated from the John and Josh Lyons Certification Program to date and many continue each year. Many of the the students who have stories featured on the inspirational part of this web site are both Josh & John's students. Josh had a major part in changing their lives and giving them the tools to change.
Josh enjoys showing and training reining horses in his spare time. It's not much of a surprise anymore to hear Josh has just sold another horse for a hundred to two hundred thousand dollars. Josh won the very first "Road to the Horse" competition and over the years has traveled and taught in many different countries. He's helped and trained several now famous trainers and well known clinicians over the years and has helped them with their horses when they required his help. It's truly amazing to watch Josh ride and train, how quickly he can adapt to any horse and get the best out of that horse. John says above all Josh is his best friend besides Jody of course. Josh is a people person, loves to teach, has a kind heart and is always a loyal friend to everyone.
Josh and Jana's boys, are Austin, Johnny, Rider, and Joe who is pictured throughout the web site with his Grandpa John. Austin is 19 and now following in both his Dad's and Grandpa's footsteps as a trainer and clinician. He is already better than his dad was at 19 just because he has been exposed to all the improvements in the training his dad an grandpa have made over the past 35 years. This is how it should be, each student should out do their teacher. Austin has big shoes to fill but is well on his way to doing so. Johnny is in high school and is a star football player. He has been chosen as an all state player as a sophomore, junior and will next year be a senior. He has plans to play football in college. Johnny has a great smile, a great personality with a quick wit, and has stolen his grand mother, Jody's heart. Rider and Joe round out their family. Rider started playing basketball and Joe is five and he loves Grandpa's horse, Charlie. He has been riding with Grandpa for a double of years now.

Daughter Brandi and Family
Brandi and Husband JD
Brandi is next in line and is married to JD Hayes. Brandi and JD live in Arizona and have five children between them, all girls. JD owns a construction company and Brandi is a well known trainer & clinician, and has been a featured trainer at many large expos around the US and Canada. She currently owns and operates Lyons No Limits Horsemanship.
Brandi also traveled with her dad extensively while she was in her teens and started training on her own in her early twenties. She travels the United States giving clinics and also has a certification program. She does an outstanding job helping people attain their goals in riding and performance. She is excellent in putting the fun back into riding by helping people overcome their fears and get through past problems of being hurt with their horses. Brandi and her dad love to ride together, talk about horses, training, performance and how to help improve their teaching skills. Brandi loves games of any kind on horses and believes games help people overcome fear. She has a tremendous work ethic and never gives up on the horses or people she works with. She has won several colt starting competitions and competes along with her students in team sorting and team penning.
Brandi is loyal to the training methods her dad developed and closely follows the rules of safety in regards to the horse and rider. Her motto is "No Limits Horse Training" and helps riders learn that they can reach the goals they aspire to. Brandi had a student whom had never ridden and was blind, she helped him achieve the goal of team sorting in competition. When she says "No Limits" that's what she really means-No limits to over-coming your fear, no limits to trail riding and no limits to having fun and enjoying your horse once again. Brandi relates to people well and as a result people gravitate to her for help. She has a great smile, a wonderful sense of humor, and is dedicated to her children and her students. She is a strong Christian, a great mom, a great trainer and a great daughter all wrapped up in one. Her dad loves to ride with her and takes great pride in watching how she can help others.
JD has two girls of his own, Shelby who is 21, married, and starting a family of her own. Mandy who is 19 and lives at home with her mom. Brandi has three girls; Hope, who is 17, Daisy who is 15, and Charlie who is thirteen. Hope is a beautiful girl who lives at the gym and loves most outdoor sports and wants to be a Nurse Practitioner or a PA. She has a soft heart towards others and is very kind. Daisy genuinely loves horses, just like her mom. She's very smart and fights for the rights of others to be treated fair and is selfless in many ways. She is now home schooled, travels with her mom riding and helping out in clinics where she can. She may grow up and possibly carry on the family tradition of helping others with their horses. Charlie, is thirteen and was diagnosed with Rhett's Syndrome when she was about a year old. Rhett's leaves the barer with the inability to communicate all but when they are in discomfort of some form. Rhett's leaves the mind unaltered, and normal, but cripples the rest of the body. Brandi says Charlie is her gift from God in many ways. John has asked Brandi to write up a little story about Charlie. When I receive Brandi's post I will attach it here.
Son, Michael and his Bride Julia
Michael and Josh at the Equitana in Australia
Michael is 24 and their youngest son. He married Julia in 2016 and together they are a dynamite team. Michael played sports growing up and through high school, but just before he graduated high school he decided that he wanted to be a horse trainer. John told him to go to college first but after a semester in school, John saw that Mike was very serious, and knew the direction he wanted to go. Mike's personality has always been one of a team player, a true helper, and a solid friend. He has a million dollar smile and developed a strong faith in his early high school years. Everyone whose ever met or worked with Mike, speaks of him with the kindest words. He's just that special and both Jody and John are very proud of him in so many ways.
Mike studied hard and both lived & worked for Josh and Jana for five years before going out on his own. Josh taught Mike everything he's learned about horse training and working with people. During that time he met Julia at the World Equestrian Games in Lexington, Kentucky and five years later they were married. The story of their meeting and the relationship that followed is pretty much what fairy tales are made of. Mike and Julia now own and operate Michael Lyons Horsemanship. Together they are now traveling throughout the southeast, south, mid-west and even doing some special clinics here at home in Colorado. They work together in the clinics and riders love how easy they are to work with and how knowledgeable they are.
Michael brings his personality of being a team player, a great supporter, and easy going manner as he works with riders in their clinics. Julia brings the vibrancy, laughter and a fun personality to the clinic. So together they are the team that helps others enjoy their horses.

Katie is our youngest daughter at 21. She is also a fun girl with a big smile, very quick wit, and a big heart. She loves to decorate, and cook. She is going to college and finishing up on her culinary degree while working full time as a chef at a high end restaurant in Grand Junction, Colorado. She has a steady boy-friend who also works at the same restaurant and is attending Mesa State University. He will continue his education at one of the major universities in the United States as anesthesiologist.
Well that's our family and Jody and I are proud of our children as they are good kids, good parents and just good people.
We have been very blessed by God in many ways- some we don't even realize.
